Federal Skilled Worker Program: Your Path To Permanent Residency

Skilled work experience refers to work experience in one of the National Occupational Classification (NOC) skill levels: TEER 0, TEER A, TEER B, or TEER C. The NOC is a system used in Canada to classify occupations based on the type of work performed and the skill level required. Each occupation is assigned a specific five-digit code and falls under one of the skill levels mentioned above.


The Federal Skilled Worker Program is designed for individuals with skilled work experience who intend to live and work in Canada as permanent residents. Candidates are assessed based on factors such as age, education, work experience, language skills, and adaptability. A valid job offer is not required, but having one can increase the chances of receiving an invitation to apply for permanent residence.


Work Experience

  • At least one year (1,560 hours) of continuous full-time or equivalent part-time skilled work experience within the last ten years.
  • Must be in a skilled occupation classified under TEER 0, 1, 2, 3.

Language Proficiency

  • Language skills are assessed in the areas of reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in English or French by taking IELTS /CELPIP or TEF/ICF and obtain the required minimum scores.


  • Must have completed a foreign educational credential equivalent to a Canadian post-secondary diploma, degree, or certificate.
  • Educational credentials are evaluated by designated organizations to determine their Canadian equivalency.

Proof of Funds

Must show that they have sufficient funds to support themselves and their family members (if applicable) upon arrival in Canada. The specific amount required depends on the size of the family.


Points are awarded for factors such as previous work or study experience in Canada, a valid job offers, and having a relative who is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.

Express Entry Profile
  • Must create an online profile in the Express Entry system and meet the minimum eligibility criteria for the FSWP.
  • Must includes information about work experience, education, language proficiency, and other personal details.
Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) Score

Candidates are assessed and assigned a CRS score based on factors such as age, education, work experience, language proficiency, and adaptability. The CRS score determines the candidate’s ranking in the Express Entry pool.

Invitation to Apply (ITA)

Candidates with the highest CRS scores receive Invitations to Apply for permanent residence through regular Express Entry draws conducted by the Canadian government. The cutoff CRS score for each draw varies depending on the number of candidates in the pool and the government’s immigration targets.

Document Submission and Verification

Once an ITA is received, applicants have a specific time frame (usually around 60 days) to submit a complete application for permanent residency. This includes providing supporting documents, undergoing medical examinations, and submitting police certificates.
